Belvidere School

About Us

Belvidere School is a popular, successful school in the county town of Shrewsbury. We have over 830 students on roll, aged 11-16. The school has grown in size dramatically since the 1980s, and this is in large part due to the sustained success of the school over the last twenty years.

Students at Belvidere make excellent academic progress and we are very proud of their achievements. Performance tables in recent years have regularly placed Belvidere among the highest performing Shropshire schools at GCSE. As well as setting high standards in the classroom, we also place high value on students' personal, social and emotional development. Our pastoral support systems are a real strength with tutors and Heads of Year monitoring for and responding to any concerns. We have several non-teaching members of the pastoral team who are available to listen and talk through any worries or issues in school.

Our house system encourages an ethos of leadership, teamwork and collaboration, along with encouraging a healthy spirit of friendly competition between groups of students. Students belong to one of four houses: Hopton, Ludlow, Stokesay and Whittington and take part in a number of House competitions throughout the year to win points.

We have very high expectations of our students' behaviour and attitude towards their work. We use the three memorable words Ready, Respectful and Safe when speaking to students about expectations for their behaviour in school. Staff regularly reinforce what Ready, Respectful and Safe behaviours look like in and out of school.

We seek to extend opportunity for all students beyond the classroom, through our extensive range of sporting opportunities, musical productions, talent shows and subject specific clubs. Our range of residential trips and visits, many of which are overseas, is a strength, and each year we have a significant number of students working toward the Duke of Edinburgh’s award at Bronze level.

The Belvidere School Staff is a genuinely outstanding team of hard working and talented professionals, who are always willing to go the extra mile to help our students achieve their very best. We strive to create a friendly, welcoming environment in which our students can achieve great things. Our ultimate aim is to equip our young people with the necessary qualifications, skills and attributes to succeed in life, the workplace and further study.
